What is Expanding Grout?
Expanding Grout is a non-explosive demolition agent used for breaking rock and concrete. Also known as Expansive Demolition Grout, it is designed to provide job sites with non-explosive solutions for the demolition of rock and concrete in environmentally sensitive areas. Using a non-explosive product for rock and concrete breaking completely eliminates flyrock, noise, vibration from blasting, human discomfort and structural damage related to air blast overpressure. Compared with conventional concrete and rock breaking methods, Expanding Grout is safe, easy-to-use and cost-effective. It does not require heavy equipment, permits, or special certifications.
What are the benefits of Expanding Grout?
The use of traditional demolition methods such as explosives may not be feasible or may require special precautions. Expanding Grout works for a variety of situations where conventional explosives are prohibited or undesirable. Expanding Grout is a safe, non-explosive, and cost effective demolition solution. We have also proven that it can reduce labour costs and increase productivity while significantly reducing environmental impacts. Additional benefits of Expanding Grout include:

How does Expanding Grout work?
Expanding Grout is a mixture of elements that initiates when water is added to the dry mix. As the grout sets, the material expands, producing 18,000 psi of force on the drill hole it is poured into. The expansive force will cause the rock or concrete to break, in a low controlled demolition.
Will Expanding Grout break all sizes of rock and concrete?
Yes, our Expanding Grout will break all sizes of rock and concrete, from very small to large, as well as steel reinforced concrete or bedrock. Our Expanding Grout products have an astounding 18,000 psi expansive strength when mixed with water.
What is the difference between explosive and non-explosive demolition agents?
An explosive agent, also called an explosive, is a reactive substance that contains a large amount of potential energy that can produce an explosion if released suddenly. An explosion is usually accompanied by the production of light, heat, sound, and pressure. Explosives are often used in demolition, mining, and quarrying, but pose significant safety risks.
Non-explosive demolition agents are an alternative to explosives in demolition, mining, and quarrying. Non-explosive demolition agents offer many advantages over conventional explosive products. For instance, non-explosive demolition agents are much safer than explosives. Non-explosive demolition agents are also silent and do not produce vibrations the way a conventional explosive would, and are thus ideal for sensitive environments.
How does Expanding Grout save time and money?
We have proven that Expanding Grout can reduce labor costs and increase productivity while significantly reducing environmental impacts. Expanding Grout requires no special licenses or permits. Expanding Grout also eliminates the need for specialty equipment and tools. Additionally, Expansive Demolition Grout removes the possibility of environmental and structural damage related to conventional explosive demolition agents.
How do you use Expanding Grout?
To use Expanding Grout in demolition or quarrying, holes are drilled in the base rock or concrete as they would be for use with conventional explosives. A slurry mixture of the Expansive Demolition Grout and water is poured into the drill holes. Over a few hours, the slurry expands, cracking the rock in a pattern similar to the cracking that would occur from conventional explosives. Expanding Grout can be used in hole diameters ranging from 1″ – 3″ creating versatility for job site conditions, depending on the method of excavation and drilling equipment available. To use Expanding Grout for your concrete or rock breaking project, follow these three simple steps:
- Select an appropriate drill pattern for your rock or concrete breaking project and drill the holes.
- Mix the Expanding Grout using 1.5L of cold water for every 11 lb bag of Expanding Grout.
- Pour the Expanding Grout slurry in the clean, pre-drilled holes within 10 minutes of mixing. The rock or concrete will begin to crack within 24 hours.
Should you take any safety precautions when using Expanding Grout?
Yes. You should always take safety precautions when using a rock breaking noncombustive demolition agent, regardless of how safe the agent is. Safety measures should include safety goggles, rubber gloves, and a dust-proof mask.
